The Bridges of Interstate 275

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge and the Howard Frankland Bridge

Interstate 275 in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area utilizes two major bridges in its 59 mile journey through the Tampa Bay region, the Howard Frankland Bridge and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Of course we can't leave out the numerous overpasses and underpasses here and there.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge

Opened in 1987 the Sunshine Skyway Bridge is well known for both its aesthetic as well as its majestic value. But its history goes back to 1954 when the first Sunshine Skyway Bridge opened.

The Howard Frankland Bridge

Opened in 1960, the Howard Frankland Bridge quickly began earning its righteous nicknames due to the number of accidents on the bridge.
