Exit 49: Bird Street and Waters Avenue

Winding its way through central Tampa and making the transition to north Tampa crossing the Hillsborough River is the next exit on Interstate 275, which is Exit 49, Bird Street and Waters Avenue. This exit is a southbound entry and northbound exit only interchange, which was built in 1967. This segment is six lanes, three for northbound and three for southbound.

Bird Street is another local side street like its counterpart at Sligh Avenue. The Tampa Greyhound Track is reached via Bird Street. On the other hand, Waters Avenue is a regional highway that goes west to the Veterans Expressway (FL Toll 589) but it takes on a character as a city street in the vicinity of Interstate 275 between Nebraska and Florida Avenues.

Both Bird Street and Waters Avenue are connected by two one way side streets, Lamar Avenue for northbound exiting traffic and Seminole Avenue for southbound entering traffic.
